  1. Triggers
  2. Withdraw
  3. Tolerance
  4. Judgment
  5. Co-dependence

  1. The show we watched in class was about an alcoholic named Nichole. When Nichole was little she didn’t have a great father figure. Her father was a binge drinker and a mean drunk. This lead to Nichole’s drinking which started at the age of 15. At first it was just social drinking, nothing to serious. But then Nichole got a boyfriend named Matt. Matt was the first boy she really cared about. After about 5 years Matt left Nichole for her sister Sam. This is where Nichole’s drinking started to get more serious. She tried to drink the pain away. Later she started using any drug that she could get her hands on. She crashes two cars and was sued. Her tolerance leave got so high that she could have up to 18 beers a day. This is when her judgment started to get clouded. She would do anything including stealing and having sex just to get money for beer. When Nichole doesn’t drink for more than 5 hours she gets seizure like symptoms and they don’t go away until she drinks. So basically Nichole is drunk all the time. Her family constantly worries about her but they don’t really do anything to help her. Her mother thinks she is helping her but she’s the one going out and buying beer for Nichole. She feels bad for her so she will do anything for her even if it might make the situation worse.

  2. Today we watched an Intervention about an alcoholic named Nichole. Nichole started drinking at the age of 15 because her father was never around. He was a binge drinker and verbally abusive when drunk. Because of these daddy issues she also seeks bad relationships. She had one good relationship with a guy named Matt but her sister stole him and now they are engaged. So now both of the men she loved and should have been there for her have abandoned her and she has a hole to fill. She does so by drinking at least 18 beers a day. If Nichole does not have a beer she begins to shake. Footage was shown of her most recent withdrawal and she could not even sit up because she was shaking so badly. When she is desperate for beer her judgment goes out the window. Her mother suspects that she has sex for beer and Nichole admits to waking up in hotel rooms with strangers. Her mother feeds her addiction by making excuses, blaming other people and buying her beer. One example is when Nichole wanted to go to the store for beer but her mother said no. She began to cry so her mom gave in and eventually bought the beer for her. Her mother does not realize that she is actually hurting Nichole instead of helping her. During the intervention, Brenda was confronted and made to understand her actions have hurt Nichole by allowing her to continue being an alcoholic and hurt her by blaming her sister Samantha for her addiction, driving a wedge between the sisters. With evidence as clear as that, it is hard for Brenda to make more excuses and push the blame to someone else.

  3. Nichole has had a pretty hard life filled with addiction, betrayal, and was neglected by her father. Her father Dwayne was a binge drinker when Nichole was growing up. He was never really around and when he was he did not spend quality time with her. Dwayne was not the father figure Nichole needed; he wouldn’t even tell her that he loved her. Nichole started drinking at the age of 15 and has been an alcoholic for the past 10 years. At first she drank to have fun and to have that whole high school experience. Nicholes’ mom Brenda would even buy her beer to take to parties and practically encouraged her to drink. Nichole started looking for love that she didn’t get from her dad in boyfriends. She started dating Matt when she was 15 and they dated for 5 years. Matt broke up with her because he was in love with her sister Samantha. After they broke up her drinking and drug use got worse. She has been in 2 car crashes and is being sued. There was even at one time a warrant for her arrest. Nichole drinks up to 18 beers a day and blacks out about 5 times a week because she is always so heavily drinking. When she doesn’t have the money to buy beer she will meet random people and use them to buy her beer, she even will have sex with a guy just to get beer. Nichole also goes to her mom because she knows that her mom will do anything she wants and knows how to manipulate her to get what she wants. Her mom blames her sister Samantha for Nichole being an alcoholic because she did not start drinking as bad as she does until her Matt left her for Samantha. Yes that might have triggered her to drink her sorrows away but her mom was a major factor in her drinking. Her mom encouraged her to drink when she was younger by buying her beer and letting her get drunk. Brenda is one of the major reasons that Nichole is how she is but doesn’t want to admit that so she puts the blame on others.

  4. The intervention we watched in class was about this girl Nichole that became an alcoholic. Her dad was never around her so she didn't have the father that she needed. She started drinking at age 15 but she was just a social drinker; she just drank at parties. She met this guy Matt and he was the first guy she cared about and loved. 5 years after dating, Matt left her for her sister Samantha. She was so heartbroken that she began to drink her problem away. She started drinking so much that her tolerance is really high. She drinks 18 beers a day and blacks out about 5 times a week from drinking. She cant go 4 hours without a drink. She needs to be drinking all the time if not she'll start getting seizures like symptoms. Her judgement is so bad, she has sex and does illegal stuff to get alcohol. Nichole's alcoholism started to affect and bring problems to the her whole family. There's a big fight and argument between her family. They blame Samantha for Nichole's alcoholism.

  5. Nicole is addicted to alcohol. She's a big mess. She drinks beer like all day, looks pretty bad, and can't go on without a drink for more then maybe like an hour. However, she wasn't always like this. Every case of addiction has a underlying reason for the addiction. In this case, it is Nichole's father, Dwayne, who was also a heavy drinker when Nichole was growing up. Her father's drinking problems really affected her childhood because he neglected both of his daughters. Through this neglect, and the loss of her highschool sweetheart, Matt, to her sister, Nichole's alcohol addiction was triggered. All of her pent up depression and sadness just continually causes her to find and outlet, which for her is alcohol, and has created a neverending cycle of drinking. Her addiction has become so severe that her withdrawal symtoms are terrible. Her tolerance for alcohol has skyrocketed and she can't handle not drinking. If she is to go just a little amount of time without a beer, she is unable to do anything really. All she is capable of is whining and asking for more beer. The sheer amount of beer she consumes per day eventually took it's toll. Nowadays, Nichole goes through about 18 cans of beer every single day. Her addiction to alcohol has immensely altered her sense of judgement. She has terrible judgement skills because she is so consumed by her thirst for the high that alcohol gives for her. Her own family suspects that she most likely has slept around in order to get her fill of alcohol. She does whatever it takes to get a beer. Fueled by this desire to drink, she does not even realize that her boyfriend is a terrible guy, and she should not be with him. Her family also notices her terrible judgement. They notice how severe her addiction is, but most of them don't take the actions necessary to help her get off of beer. Her mom especially has been effected by her addiction. As you follow Nichole, you start to realize that when she is doing well, her entire family is happy and the mood is lifted. However, when Nichole falls down again into her old ways, the family is depressed. Her family have become obsessed with trying to help her and being concerned with how she is doing.

  6. Nicole is a young girl who has been an alcoholic for 10 years. She started drinking when she was only 15 years old. Her father was an alcoholic while she was young, so she grew up around that type of lifestyle. When she first started drinking it was just social drinking but later lead to something more serious. Her boyfriend, Matt, of 5 years, who moved in with her and her family, left her for her sister Sam. This took her to a new low because that was the only male figure in her life that gave her attention due to her dad being an alcoholic. After Matt and Sam got together it all went downhill for Nicole. She turned to alcohol to cope with her broken heart. Nicole could drink up to 18 beers a day because her body became so tolerant to the alcohol. She doesn't have good judgment and is willing to do almost anything for a beer. When she doesn't have a drink she starts shaking and having seizure symptoms from withdraws. Her mother would normally cave in and give Nicole a beer because she didn’t know how to handle her and the situation. Nicole is completely dependent on her family because she can't take care of herself. Her family is also suffering from Nicole being an alcoholic. They are constantly arguing and blaming each other for Nicole's alcoholism.

  7. We watched a show in class about an alcoholic girl named Nicole. She is severely addicted to alcohol. But this addiction didn’t just come out of nowhere. Lots of things happened earlier in her life to trigger the addiction. First of all, her father was an alcoholic also. He was a binge drinker and didn’t help out much around the house when it came to his children. Nicole didn’t feel that she had acceptance from her father. Her sister also stole away the only guy who actually really loved her and accepted her. She had a boyfriend named Matt who she started dating in high school. They had been together for 5 years before her sister, Samantha, broke it apart. So that was a really big trigger also. She started drinking when she was 15, and as time went by and as she drank more, her tolerance level also increased. She was drinking up to 18 beers a day. After about 5 hours without a beer, she experiences withdrawal and begins to shake. She has seizure-like symptoms, so in order to not die, she must be drunk all of the time. Her judgment is greatly affected also. If she has no money to feed her addiction, she’ll do anything to get what she needs. For example, she’s claimed to waking up in hotel rooms next to strangers before. So she’ll do anything, because of the constant need for beer. Her family is also affected by her problems. Her mother especially is an enabler. One time, Nicole asked for some beer and Brenda refused. But Nicole started crying so Brenda gave in bought some for her. She keeps making excuses and blames others. It seems like every time Nicole starts to get better, the family is happier. But once she gets worse, the family gets worse also. This is called Co- dependence.

  8. Nichole is a very young girl who is dependent on alcohol. Her father, Dwayne, was a binge drinker throughout her earlier years. He was hardly ever around to support his two daughters. This really got to Nichole, and she felt neglected. She was only 15 years old when she first started drinking. At 15, she met and fell in love with a young man named Matt. She felt that Matt was the only man in her life that actually cared for her. After 5 years of dating, Matt left Nichole for her sister Sam. At this point, Nichole really has no man by her side. Nichole is physically unable to go without any type of alcohol for more than 5 hours without breaking down. She is dependent upon alcohol to get her throught the day. Nichole has a very high tolerance for alcohol because of the amounts she has consumed over the years. She was at one point able to consume 18 beers in a day. Nichole's judgement is very poor, because all that is basically on her mind is alcohol. She uses guys for sex just so they will provide her alcohol. She always depends on her mom to buy her alcohol, because her mom always caves in. Nichole's family members are not good supporters of her problem at all.

  9. Today’s intervention episode was about a girl named Nichole. Her Dad, Dwayne was an alcoholic who never really understood Nicole. Growing up seeing her Dad drinking, Nicole started drinking herself at age 15. She showed poor judgment in choosing to start drinking and is now an alcoholic. Nichole started dating a guy named Matt. They dated for five years and would drink together until he left her for her sister Samantha. Matt and Samantha are now engaged. Nichole would try to drink away her pain of being rejected. She thought she could find love with guys that she didn’t get from her Dad. Her judgment in choice of guys is poor and these guys are not good for her. Nichole can drink as many as 18 beers a day. Within five hours after Nichole has had her last drink, she starts withdrawal. She craves another drink and starts shaking and to black out. Nicole will do anything to get alcohol, even if it means breaking the law. She has been so intoxicated that has led to her crashing cars and being sued. Nicole also takes advantage of her mother’s willingness to do anything for her, including buying her beer even when she is already drunk. Nichole needs to straighten out her life and if she doesn’t, her life won’t end well.

  10. Nichole is an alcoholic. She has been drinking for ten years. Growing up, even at the age of fifteen, her mom provided the drinks for her parties to help her daughter gain popularity. Her mom is an enabler to her drinking. She can cry her way through any situation and her mom ends up doing what she asks. Her dad was a binge drinker for years and never really told her he loved her. He does not want anything to do with his daughter’s alcoholism and leaves the house if she comes home drunk. The only boy she ever loved ended up leaving her for her sister Samantha after five years of dating and living with the family for some time. She has fallen into a sort of depression and only feels good when she is drunk, which is all the time. She drinks about eighteen beers a day. She starts to feel withdrawals within five hours of her last drink. Her hands and body start to shake and she gets really emotional begging for another drink. Her current boyfriend does not treat her well and her family believes she is only with guys to have drinking buddies. She has gone to great measures to get drinks, including have sex for drinks. She has a really high tolerance level because of her experience with drinking. Her judgment goes away when she is drunk and all she can concentrate on is getting another drink and feeling numb to the pain she is experiencing with her family. Her whole family thinks that her mom is splitting the family except for Nichole and her mom. She is at Nichole’s every beck and call and will buy her whatever she wants no matter when it is. Their whole family is affected by Nichole’s addiction and her mom’s lack of responsibility. They are all worried that if Nichole does not get help, and fast, she will die soon.

  11. Nichole is introduced in the show Intervention. Nichole is shown to be an alcoholic. She has gotten to the point where she cannot live without alcohol. She has to have alcohol or she would stop functioning. Growing up, Nichole was raised without a real father figure. This was due to her father being a binge drinker. Her father was a major alcoholic while Nichole was growing up. This caused triggers because she was raised around an alcoholic figure. Her parents were also willing to give Nichole and her sister alcohol when they went out. The parents thought it was fine to give them a couple of drinks. This is a trigger because it leads on to wanting more and more alcohol. In high school, Nichole had a boyfriend, Matt. After He had moved in and dated Nichole for five years; he left Nichole for her sister. This was a really big trigger that led to Nichole's alcoholism. She was very depressed because her true love had left her and the only way to fill the emptiness and betrayal was drinking. She drank more and more to forget about her boyfriend which led her to be an alcoholic. Nichole's withdrawals are very severe. Is she doesn't constantly drink alcohol, she is not able to function. Nichole drinks about eighteen beers a day. She always has to have one with her. If she does not get beer she starts to shake. She starts to freak out and cries. Her withdrawals show when she has not had a beer in a while. Nicholes tolerance level has gone to the point in which she always needs to have a beer. She cannot live without alcohol. She will go to the stage in which she almost dies and passes out. Her tolerance level is very high because how much has has drank through out her life. She has gotten to the point in which she absolutely needs alcohol in her life. Because of her alcoholism; Nicole has very poor judgement. She doesn't care about anything other than alcohol. Her main goal is to get alcohol and she will do what ever it takes to get it. She will ask random people for money, sleep with random guys for alcohol, or hang out with people who will drink alcohol with her. Nichole has gotten to the point where alcohol is her main priority. Alcohol is her elixir. She will do what ever it takes to keep on getting alcohol or else she will have a melt down. The co-dependence of Nicole is between Nicole and her family. Nichole's alcoholism affects her family because they feel bad for her. They want the best for her and continue to try to lead Nichole in the right direction. Nichole's mom is not a very good person to stop Nichole's addiction. She is not independent and always gives in to Nichole and buys her alcohol. She always caves in to Nichole and continues to feed Nichole's direction. Her mom blames the addiction on Nichole's sister and boyfriend, Matt. An example of co-dependence is the mood of the family and Nichole. When Nichole is doing well, her family seems to be very happy. When they see Nichole making little steps they get happy because they see hope. The opposite mood occurs when they see Nichole in her bad side. When Nichole is in the uncontrollable stage for the need of alcohol, which is most of the time, her family becomes sad and is not very optimistic and is feels very bad for Nichole. Her family is very devoted on helping Nichole through her addiction. They find help and have an intervention to discuss what the problem is.

  12. The subject of this intervention was a woman name Nichole in 20’s who suffers from alcoholism. When Nichole was little her father was a binge drinker, which meant that he was very absent in her life. This absence in Nichole’s life made a hole that needed to be filled by a loving man. Nichole found a boy named Matt who she dated for many years, however as Nichole’s drinking became worse, Matt then left Nichole for her sister Samantha. Since Nichole was left by another man it caused her drinking to escalate rapidly. This triggered a pattern of drinking up to 18 beers a day and constantly being in a drunk or intoxicated state. Nichole also struggles from very frequent withdrawals. Since Nichole drinks most of the day, her body has become accustom to it and whenever she was not drinking she would begin shaking. In the program it showed how she would begin violently shaking only after a few hours of not drinking. It also discussed how she would have seizures after a period without alcohol. Nichole has a very high tolerance because her body has built up immunity to the alcohol, so it takes much more to get her drunk. She can drink up the 18 beers a day and in the show it was very rare to see her throughout the day without a drink in her hand at all times. Her dad seems very judgmental of Nichole because he kicked his binge drinking problem years ago and he does nothing to help Nichole quit drinking. Also her mother is judgmental towards Sam and Matt, who she believes is responsible for Nichole’s problem. The mother does not recognize her own part in Nichole’s alcoholism. Nichole is co-dependent on her mother and vice versa. Nichole will ask her mother to stop by a store to buy alcohol and her mother will cave. The mother enables Nichole to continue her alcoholism by allowing her to drink and not giving her treatment. The family as a whole has a part in Nichole’s alcoholism because they either don’t get her help or just turn away from her because of her difficult behavior.

  13. On Monday we watched an intervention about Nicole and her addiction to alcohol. When Nicole was younger her father was a heavy drinker, and wasn't really the father figure she needed, he would even call her and her sister Samantha names. So when Nicole was in 9th grade she started drinking for the social part, which eventually lead to more and more beers because her body was "getting used" to the alcohol so she'd have to drink much more to get the same effect she got in the beginning with just one beer. Now Nicole can drink up to 18 cans a day and blacks out at least 5 times a week. When Nicole was in high school she met Matt <3 Matt was who she thought would be the love of her life BUT then Matt left Nicole for her sister after 5 years of dating. Samantha and Nicole are still not on a talking basis, and now Samantha and Matt are engaged. Nicole is always drinking alcohol or has alcohol in her system. So much that her judgment is awful, she's crashed 2 cars and has been sued. Her body is so used to having alcohol that if she goes 5 hours without a beer she gets awful tremors where her hands can't stop shaking until she has another beer. And that's where her mom comes in, Nicole's mother is pulling the family apart by supplying Nicole with beers on a regular basis. She "tries" to help Nicole but then eventually caves in and buys her a six pack at the ABC store down the street. Nicole's family is all worried about her health, but don't do anything to help her or her mom during this struggle.

  14. Monday during class we watched an episode of the show Intervention about an alcoholic named Nichole. Nichole started drinking at the age of 15. Her father was a "binge drinker" while Nichole and Samantha were younger, and when he drank he became verbally abusive. When Nichole turned 15, as a freshman in high school, she began drinking socially. Nichole began a more and more frequent drinker. At this point in her life she met Matt. Matt was a little bit older, and he kinda enabled Nichole and her drinking issue. Nichole thought Matt was her soul-mate, but she was wrong. Matt left Nichole for her sister, Samantha, and now they are engaged to be married after 5 years of dating. These reasons are known as triggers. Nichole's lack of a "father-figure" causes Nichole to drink her fears and failures away. When Nichole is withdrawn from alcohol she begins to shake violently, and almost reacts as if she is having a seizure. In order for Nichole to stop shaking she must drink another beer which makes this one, big vicious cycle. Nichole has an extremely high tolerance for alcohol. She can drink up to 18 cans of beer a day, and still walk straight. She walks or drive to the ABC store in town, and has actually been turned down by the cashier for her intoxication. Although her tolerance can be high, her judgement is not. Nichole has multiple accidents, and warrants out for her arrest which is the result of some awful judgement. Co-dependence is a huge factor in Nichole's story. Nichole's mother is an enabler. She tries so hard to be disciplinary on Nichole, but in the end she breaks down and caves in and buys her more beer. All of Nichole's family is worried about the safety and well being of Nichole, but it takes Nichole knowing she can do it to move past her alcoholism and seek the professional help she needs.

  15. Nicole is a 25 year old woman who is dealing with alcoholism. When she was just 15 she started down the dangerous path of drinking, although it started out as just social and was something for her and her friends to do when they were at a party it turned into something much more. With a mean and absent father, horrible break up with her boy friend, she slowly became an alcoholic. And eventually it would start to take over her life and begin to ruin her family’s. As a child Nicole grew up with a father who would come home and drink and then verbally abuse her and her siblings. Although he was mostly and absent father the abuse did its damage, then when her and her boyfriend, broke up after 5 years and he began dating Nicole’s sister, her drinking became more of an every day event.
When the drinking was on a social level for Nicole it only took a few beers for her to begin feeling the effects of it, but as things got worse for Nicole her tolerance level for the alcohol became higher and higher, today she will drink up to 18 beers a day. And when she runs out of money she will call friends to bring her beer or will do almost anything to have her addiction met. And if Nicole’s addiction is not satisfied she goes into withdrawal symptoms. These can begin within five hours of her last beer. She has been hospitalized many times for her addiction and sometimes the only way to help her feel better is by giving into her addiction. But there is a fine line between helping someone and enabling them. And that is exactly what Nicole’s mother is doing. Her mother gives in and buys her daughter alcohol and she has been since Nicole was 15. Nicole’s drinking has taken over her life and her family’s today Nicole cant talk to her sister, who is now engaged to Matt. But the tension between the two hurts the family as a whole. Nicole needs to want to help herself so that things can get better for her and her family.

  16. Nicole is in her mid 20's and she is an alcoholic. It all started when she was about 15 years old and her mother gave her drink at a party thinking it was fine. Her mother, along with the rest of the family, did not think that Nicole was going to get worse and worse. Now older Nicole has to drink a lot or else she passes out after about four hours. She is sort of drunk and sober at the same time and if she doesn't get the drink within those four hours, she will start to tremble. Dealing with alcoholism is bad enough, but while she was young her father was a binge drinker and wasn't really a father image to her. Even her mother isn't really much of a motherly image. She picked up Nicole from her boyfriends house and was headed back home. While on the way, Nicole started complaining that she wanted a drink but her mother refused to get her a one. Not until Nicole started to cry, did her mother give in to buying drinks for her. Though her parents are an affect to her, there is someone else that everybody thinks is the blame for her drinking, her sister Samantha. Specifically her mother says that the reason Nicole is still having problems drinking is because she is with Nicole's ex, Matt. The relationship between Nicole and her sister is very tense and doesn't seem like it's getting any better. In order for the family to recreate that relationship, Nicole needs to get better, if not everything will stay the same.

  17. In the intervention episode we watched Monday was about a young woman named Nicole and her addiction to alcohol. Some of the things that we discussed about addiction is that an addiction can start off small and essentially not harmful but can elevate to a rather life threatening status. Many people have certain things in their lives they are trying to escape from when using drugs or alcohol. At first the high only takes a little bit to get to a level of intoxication but what happens to people with an addiction is their tolerance, or body’s adaptation to the chemical, grows to the point where it requires more in order to gain the same feeling as when they first started. Nicole’s drinking started as a social thing and only for fun but some things that happened in her life caused her to need more of the alcohol to have the same feeling of escape from reality. Nicole had two main triggers which are things that make a person feel the need to escape reality and forget about a certain situation. The first is that her father was not around very much and was a binge drinker. Being a binge drinker means that her father would drink one beer after another until he would pass out. This made Nicole feel not connected to her father during her childhood. The second thing that put her over the edge and really was the major determining factor of her addiction was the fact that her boyfriend of three or four years left her to go and marry her sister. These things drove Nicole to the point where she felt that the only way to escape the things that were happening was to drink and drink and drink. One thing that was majorly affected was her judgment while she was drunk. One thing about drinking is that is causes damage to the brain cells which is what causes the lack of judgment in a drunken person. When she drank she would mumble her words and stagger around but as soon as she would start to come down off that high of being drunk she would drink another one which only caused more damage. She had wrecked two cars because of driving intoxicated and her whole family was being split apart over this addiction. Her mother was not helping her but was enabling her and giving in by giving her another drink or buying it for her when she was already intoxicated. When Nicole went through withdrawal she goes into seizure type shaking all over her body that can make her feel that she needs more to drink. There are many things that caused or continued Nicole’s addiction and she needs the intervention to save her life.

  18. The intervention episode we watched in class featured a young woman in her 20’s named Nichole and her addiction to alcohol. At such a young age, she is an extreme alcoholic and has been ever since she started drinking at the age of 15. Two big reasons that triggered her to drink were her father and sister. Her father was a binge drinker, and when she was a child, her father would never pay attention to her or tell her he loved her. This was the first trigger because she had no man in her life that she could rely on and she was already used to the drinking lifestyle because of her parents. The second reason was her ex-boyfriend Matt. Matt was her boyfriend of over 5 years and was the first guy Nichole ever put her trust in. He lived with her family and was the only guy that paid attention to her unlike her father. Things changed later on though and Matt started to develop feelings for her sister, Samantha, and left Nichole for her. Matt is now her soon to be brother-in-law. This was a stab in the back to Nichole and she was hurt immensely and couldn’t grasp the fact that someone would do such a thing after being together so long. This triggered her to start to rely on alcohol because there was nothing else left to satisfy her and she liked the feeling of being drunk. Nichole cannot go more than 5 hours without having a drink and starts to withdraw. Her body’s high tolerance for alcohol is irregular for the average person. Nichole can drink up to 18 beers a day with her body already used to it, wanting more. Nichole feels the needs to keep drinking because it relaxes her and keeps her from shaking or withdrawing. Her judgment is lost when she is drunk and she will do anything she can to either drink or get money to buy alcohol. Nichole is co-dependent on her mother. She basically relies on her mother to give her everything she wants just like her mother did when she was younger. Her mother is a big reason for Nichole’s alcoholism. Although her mother wants Nichole to stop drinking and tries to do everything she thinks she can to stop her, she actually does the complete opposite, giving Nichole alcohol when she begs for it. Her mother tends to blame her other daughter, Samantha, for Nichole’s addiction to alcohol but really it is also her fault because she simply cannot say no to Nichole. Not only is she dependent on her family for alcohol, but her family is also dependent on Nichole. Nichole is the reason why everything is so crazy in her family, from her ex-boyfriend drama to her alcoholism. Nichole blacks out from the alcohol she consumes at least 5 times a week and if she keeps up her habit of drinking alcohol, she will be in even more trouble and possibly die.

  19. The episode of intervention is centered on a girl named Nicole. Nicole is a troubled Alcoholic who has lost all control of her personal restraints and independence when it comes to alcohol. She began drinking in high school, as a social drinker, and was encouraged to drink by her mother, who always would buy her and her sister alcohol. Eventually Nicole stopped drinking to have a good time, and started drinking to use Alcohol’s effects to help numb her pain resulting from her drunken father whom she grew up with, and her cheating boyfriend, who left her for her sister. Shed drinks more and more, increasing her tolerance so much that she is at the point where she can drink 18 beers a day and it will have little or no effect on her. She is so addicted to the alcohol that after a few hours of being sober her body convulses and she faces tremendous physical and mental pain, which is what happens when she goes through withdraw. Her body is so accustomed to that steady flow of alcohol through her system that just a few hours without it and she faces incredibly painful torture. She does anything she possibly can to make sure she has alcohol; her mother even said that she knows that Nicole sleeps with some guys, including her current boyfriend, just because they will drink with her. Alcohol has become an idol in her life, consuming every waking minute of her existence, and she is becoming more and more dependent of it. Her mother, although she feels like she is helping Nicole, is one of the major issues. She constantly allows Nicole to drink, and will buy her more and more beer. She has become co-dependent, allowing her mood to be shaped by the attitude of Nicole. She is so reliant on Nicole being in a good mood that she will get her alcohol just to make Nicole happy, and as a result make her Happy. Nicole’s alcoholism is a very extreme case and has become a cancer in not only her life but the life of everyone around her. However, it all began by her making that first step towards drinking, if she had not opened the door to Alcohol, she would never have become a helpless puppet to its affects.

  20. This particular episode of A&E’s gripping reality drama, Intervention, focuses on a young woman named Nicole who is battling (if you can call it that) with a severe case of alcoholism. Nicole began drinking, with parental guidance, at the age of fifteen. Soon, due to the absence of her binge drinking father, Nicole’s drinking became more and more habitual. Nicole then jumped off of the deep end when Matt, her boyfriend of five years, left her for Samantha, her slightly older sister. The episode finds Nicole about six years after the breakup, where the viewer discovers an enormous schism between the two sisters. Over the years, Nicole has acquired a true passion for the “poison” and an enormous level of tolerance along with it. The young blonde consumes around eighteen beers a day and still manages to maneuver herself from point A to point B. Due to the amount of alcohol Nicole takes in daily; she has obviously developed an addiction for it. The cruel signs of this addiction are clearly seen when she is lacking a buzz and is in need of another “cold one”. The signs of Nicole’s withdrawals are very sobering (no pun intended) and consist of her legs and arms shaking to the point of collapse. Nicole’s simply begins giving out, and unfortunately is in so much pain and confusion that it needs the quench of alcohol to begin to function properly. Nicole’s support system is rather shaky as well. Her mother is constantly giving in to her the moment Nicole begins to show signs of withdrawal. Nicole’s mother justifies her case by defending the “motherly instinct” within. She states that she cannot bear to see her baby go through so much pain, when clearly she is the one aiding the addiction. No matter what the cost, Nicole must receive the help she deserves, or at least needs. With her judgment as foggy as it is, Nicole could easily be somewhere she does not want to end up. The young girl will do anything for a buzz, and more so do anything to keep one. We will just have to wait and see what happens on the conclusion of the A&E reality series, Intervention.

  21. The episode of Intervention was about a young lady named Nicole, whose father was a heavy drinker, and was absent for the majority of her childhood. This, combined with the fact that Nicole was introduced to alcohol at a young age by her friends, and even her own mother, increased the chance for Nicole to become an alcoholic. When Nicole started drinking, she was in her early teens, and was a “social drinker” or someone who only drank to have more fun. As she got older, she met a boy named Matt who swept her off her feet, and she fell in love with him. Matt moved in with the family, and became eventually left Nicole for her own sister. This brought up the traumatic experiences with her father, and triggered her to start drinking to dull the pain of her life. When Nicole’s drinking became part of her everyday life, she could not go without it for longer than a few hours. She would start experiencing symptoms of withdraw, which is when your body gets so used to having a drug (in this case alcohol) in its system, that the body does not function properly without it. Some of the symptoms include shaking, vomiting, and hallucinations. As the body becomes more accustomed to having alcohol, it starts to build a tolerance to it, and you have to have more alcohol in order to get the same effect that you previously had. As Nicole became more and more dependent on alcohol, her family became worried that she was hurting herself. They began to blame each other for Nicole’s problem and instead of helping her; they enabled her to get worse. At times, Nicole’s mother would buy her alcohol because Nicole would ask for it, even though it was only hurting her. The family started to live their entire life around Nicole’s addiction, this is called co-dependency. The family was centered around the hostility that they all had for each other because they each blamed someone in the family for causing Nicole to start drinking. At the end of the day, the burden still falls on Nicole. She is the one who chose to take the first drink, and to try to find comfort in alcohol instead of finding it in something that could bring her true comfort.

  22. The Intervention episode we watched in class was about Nicole, a crazy alcoholic with many family problems. Nicole drank so much that she had a high tolerance of alcohol and drank about 18 beers a day. There were many triggers that caused her crazy alcoholism. Nicole started drinking when she was 15. Her parents were a big part of her becoming an alcoholic. Nicole's dad was a heavy drinker and wasn't a good dad. She first started drinking at parties and socially. Nicole's mom gave her alcohol when she was going to parties. Another trigger was that her boyfriend left Nicole for her sister. This was a big cause of her alcoholism. Most of Nicole's triggers were from her environment and her horrible parents. Nicole got so used to drinking alcohol that when she was withdrawn from it, she acted crazy. She would shake and would often pass out. Without alcohol, was depressed and not normal. Nicole would beg her mom for alcohol and she would give in. Nicole drank so much alcohol, that it affected her judgement extremely. She could not walk straight or talk right. She could not think right and was often dazed and confused. Nicole lived with her boyfriend and used him to get alcohol. He didn't really love her and probably thought of her as a nuisance. Nicole was dependant on her boyfriend and family. Her family hated her alcoholism even though they were one of the causes of it. Nicole had a horrible life with drama and sickness. Alcohol ruined her life.

  23. Nicole is a 25 year old alcoholic. When Nicole was 15 she began her drinking. As Nicole was a little girl she didn’t really have a man in her life. Her father was a binge drinker and treated her like dirt. He was never there for here and here mother didn’t care of she drank. To make matters worst Nicole’s boyfriend of five years left her for her sister. Nicole’s sister ended up staying with Matt and caused their relationship to crumble. When Nicole doesn’t drink for a long period of time, which isn’t usually a long time, she starts to have a horrible shake, like in the video she fell down and started shaking. The shake almost resembles tremors. On top of that Nicole has occasional seizures as she goes through her withdrawals. She blacks out up to five times a week. Nicole is extremely sick when she is sober and also extremely emotional. Nicole has to drink more and more to get to the way she wants to feel. She can drink up to 18 beers a day. Nicole cant drink an average amount as others she has been drinking so much and so long that it takes much more than the average drinker. Nicole doesn’t drive often because she is rarely sober. Her judgment is so off from her drinking she can hardly walk or put her lips up to her drink. Most of her parents life revolves around Nicole as they are constantly worried about her. Although all they are doing is making matters worst as her mom is buying her drinks still. As you notice on the film when Nicole is happy hanging ornaments and having a smile on her face everyone else is doing the same. But when the sister walks in she gets emotional and angry so the rest of the family has a bad time.

  24. In today's intervention episode it was obvious of her drinking addiction. You could see that her drinking not only effected her health but the emotional health of her family. Often this is the case with addicts. Her alcohol use started at a young age. It was triggered by her dad being a binge drinker and not there in her life. Her drinking was intensified by her long time boyfriend leaving her for her sister. Her addiction can be definitely seen through her withdrawals. Her symptoms were violent shaking and tremors. Her withdrawals start to happen when she hasn't drank in over 4 hours. This short time for withdrawals to start show how severely addicted she is. With her addiction, her tolerance level goes up dramatically. Her tolerance means that she needs more and more alcohol to feel the same feeling she had before. This is evident in her constant need to drink. While drinking her judgement is severely impaired. She makes terrible decisions that could put her in harm. Throughout the episode the families co-dependence was the most obvious sign of addiction. It was evident that her addiction affected her whole family. It obviously affected her relationship with her sister because there is a deep hatred that drives apart the family. It also affects her mom because she relys on her to get her alcohol. The rest of the family ostracizes her because she enables her addiction. Through many ways her addiction can be seen through her triggers, withdrawals, tolerance level, impaired judgement, and co-dependence.
